Kathmandu, Nepal — The import of electric vehicles (EVs) from India to Nepal has seen a significant rise in the first month of the current fiscal year 2082/83, according to the latest data from the Department of Customs. This surge comes amid disruptions at Nepal’s northern border points with China due to floods and landslides.
Although China has traditionally been the main source of EV imports for Nepal, the Rasuwagadhi and Tatopani border crossings—key entry points for Chinese goods—have remained blocked, forcing importers to pivot towards India.
As per the customs data, Nepal imported a total of 160 four-wheeler EVs in the month of Shrawan, with 85 coming from India and 60 from China. The rest were sourced from other countries.
